So usually when you mention using skulls in your wedding décor people pull the funniest faces at the thought – it’s quite amusing to say the least – but we bet they have never seen them look this good! Inspired by an Alexander McQueen scarf that caught our eye here at the office, it combined girlie pink with edginess through the incorporation of the iconic Alexander McQueen skull. Ladies, we promise you, this post proves that, if need be, skulls can be incorporated into a wedding and still look bridal.
There are so many shapes, forms and sizes that skull heads come in! One of our absolute fave is using Swarovski encrusted skulls; they are girly, glam and look spectacular when paired with fresh florals and candles. Bell jars covering black skulls add an air of modern chicness to any centrepiece, especially when placed on a mirrored base. The key to pulling off skull décor is to keep the palette high-end and clean through the use of black, white, gold or even botanicals, the aim is to make them stand out.

This extraordinary foliage really puts the “d” in dreamy. Growing wildly in seas of feathery foliage, this grass looks sublime swaying in the air, these chameleonic species lend a softly sculptural element to wedding styling. It’s the touch of luxe that your nuptials need, standing at up to 5 feet tall in plumes of white or pink hues. For the perfect ceremonial drama create an incredible backdrop of pampas grass plumes, arranged in larger than life fan formations, an overhead canopy, an enclosed circle or as giant clusters spilling from urns.
The feathery plumes are lush and flashy so they don’t need many other flowers to compliment the,. However, they do look stunningly striking against green foliage for your centrepieces and bouquets. You can also use it to decorate your wedding arch or table, venue entrance, or in any other creative way. Used sparingly or not, pampas grass will give your wedding the lush luxe look that will have your guests speaking for years to come.

Who wouldn’t want to break free of tradition with gowns like this! The Avant-Grade bride is a mix of Lady gaga and Nicki Minaj. Bold colours, whimsical flair, architectural layers and abstract bodices marry together to create a masterpiece gown for the inner diva. Just take a look…
A bold statement, this is not for the faint-hearted bride but rather for the unconventional bride who exudes confidence. For this type of bride, her gown becomes an artistic expression, her language and personality. With scintillating fits like this, a minimalist approach to styling is taken to compliment the ostentatiousness that the gowns exude.

There is something striking and special about a loft – whether it’s the exposed brick walling or the wrought iron and wooden beam roofing, it is the ideal venue for brides looking for something different. The key to executing aloft-wedding is to aim for modern style and balance the industrial or rustic architecture in the room. Contrary to what many think, not all loft spaces give off that industrial type feel – although we LOVE it- a white loft space is the perfect blank canvas to create the wedding of your dreams. All the inspiration you need is right here…
The brick walling of a loft looks magical behind strung lights and candles while the high ceilings make for some glamorous drapery and out-of-this world chandeliers for that added sophistication. If a loft venue is what you are after and you manage to score one with ceiling windows, you’ve hit the jackpot. Take full advantage of the generous lighting pouring into the room and begin your festivities earlier in the day – your photographer will love you for it!

THE COUPLE: Timothy + Kristen
PALETTE: Black, white, silver and gold. We wanted a mix of masculinity and elegance.
THE SUITS: Our suits were tailor made. I wore a black dinner suit with a full satin lapel, white shirt, bowtie and Prada shoes. Timothy wore a black herringbone suit with satin trim, white shirt, black satin tie and Christian Louboutin shoes.
THE CEREMONY: Our garden ceremony was detached, private and lush yet perfectly central in location. The set up of the beautiful park was everything we wanted. We chose Americana chairs and a black aisle runner. Timothy's father built the gazebo frame we were married under.
THE RECEPTION: We were the first same sex couple to have a wedding at our reception venue and the team went above and beyond to surpass any expectations. They allowed us to bring the lush greenery into their centre and transform the premises into an indoor garden.
THE DÉCOR: Tiziana and Adriana from the Bizzarro team were amazing. Open-air structures were built over sixteen tables and covered with fresh peppercorn branches to give the guest seating an intimate, outdoor gazebo feel. The remaining tables were decorated with custom-built trees to continue the 'indoor garden' theme. Each table was covered with floating candles placed in silver, gold and clear votives. We scattered candles across our table, which was also backed by box brush screening, man made trees and our signature 'TK' logo in the centre.
THE FLOWERS: Timothy, the groomsmen and myself wore black and white poppy boutonnieres. The girls held a single white peony bouquet and our parents wore phalaenopsis orchid boutonnieres and custom corsages.
PHOTOGRAPHER: We were flicking through an issue of Brides of Adelaide Magazine and came across B Captured by Ky Luu's advertisement. After seeing his incredible work, Timothy and I both agreed that he was it. We left Ky in complete artistic control and just followed his direction. We trusted his opinion and it truly worked in our favour. Our photos are a true testament as to how talented Ky is. He captured the most intimate and precious moments of the day whilst making us feel comfortable and relaxed, no matter what the setting. His dedication to his job is second to none.

THE COUPLE: Ida + Michael
PALETTE: Ivory, green and lavender.
STYLE: Rustic elegance would be the best way to describe our theme. There was an abundance of fairy lights and large white lanterns at the reception. We wanted to create a relaxed and happy feel as if you were at a carnival. We both love the Adelaide Fringe Festival so we coordinated our wedding date to coincide with the Garden of Unearthly Delights.
THE DRESS: For my dress, I was looking for something very unique. Originally I envisioned a big ‘princess’ dress. The result was the complete opposite. My gown was a beautiful figure-hugging design with a long fishtail train. My favourite element was the sheer lace panels down both sides and the intricate lace detail.
THE CEREMONY: Our ceremony was very intimate, reflecting our personalities and relationship perfectly. Michael and I had a beautiful outdoor service amid breathtaking gardens and olive plantations. We built and painted rustic white decorative doors which lined the entrance to the aisle and perched as the alter backdrop. Our florist incorporated amazing floral styling. It was very light with a relaxed ambiance as a singer performed and an old vintage beverage van served refreshments to guests. Michael’s father sadly passed away two years ago, so to honour his memory over fifty white balloons were released during the ceremony while ‘Hallelujah’ played.
THE RECEPTION: The National Wine Centre was a perfect location, offering a great space to add your personal style and decorations. We wanted to create a romantic setting with a touch of rustic. The backdrop of the Wine Centre overlooks stunning vineyards and there is a beautiful patio area on offer, which worked well for our dessert cart and photo booth.
THE DECOR: Michael and I chose three alternating centrepieces. This included rustic vases with blooms, birdcages with floral arrangements, and white rustic candelabras. Tea light candles were also scattered across all tables. Napkins were individually tied with twine and guests’ names were presented on small hanging chalkboards. A purple misty flower was placed atop each napkin.
THE FLOWERS: The Bizzarro team were amazing and created exceptional floral displays. My bouquet was an all white floral arrangement, whilst the bridesmaids’ consisted of white flowers with sprigs of light lavender placed sporadically throughout. All the bouquets incorporated touches of raffia.
PHOTOGRAPHER: We were looking for honest and candid photography. Christopher Morrison was amazing. He captured some incredible shots when we didn’t even notice he was there. Christopher came highly recommended and made us feel very comfortable all day. He fit in really well with our bridal party.
