Flower chandeliers are such a fun and pretty statement piece and make the perfect addition to any venue space to spruce up the ceiling and help in making the area appear larger. So we thought we would put together this little DIY project to show you how you can make your very own floral chandelier. And best of all? It will last forever using silk flowers, here’s how…
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Silk flowers and foliage
Wire chandelier base
Flower tape or a hot glue gun
Twine [or something to hang the chandelier up with]
STEP 1: begin by cutting and separating he foliage that you want to fill the base with and tape them to the wire piece with floral tape [or glue]. You can use one type of foliage or you can use a mixture for the base. Do this all the way around until it is robust and full.
STEP 2: add in some green accents on the bottom to create a dangling effect, for example, heather bush or ferns. On the top use greens such as hops that will give dimension and texture to the chandelier.
STEP 3: your focal flowers [the larger ones] should be cut so that they are about 2 inches long on their stem and tape or glue them onto the chandelier where you like. They look best when bunched/placed together as shown above.
STEP 4: finish by adding your accent flowers all around the edges then add your twine. It is best if you tie them in a triangle shape to evenly distribute the weight of the chandelier. Don’t forget to consider how and where it will hang before you measure the length of twine– ties around a beam? Nailed in?
How pretty right? Take a look below at some other ideas to inspire you…

THE COUPLE: Lucy + Nick
PALETTE: Soft pinks and greens based on our love for Australian natives.
THE CEREMONY + RECEPTION: The ceremony and reception were held in Nick’s brother’s backyard. We wanted our declaration of love to be in a place where guests could feel comfortable and at home. My sister’s partner made our ceremony arch from scratch. We hired guest chairs and borrowed quirky decor extras, including our ‘bathtub esky’ to hold the refreshments.
It was amazing to surprise our loved ones as guests were originally invited to what they thought was our ‘engagement party’. We even had decoy outfits that we wore as people were arriving and then about thirty minutes into the celebration my father announced that it was actually our wedding! We all went inside to change and my brother, brother-in-law and father set up the chairs and our arch whilst our florist put together the finishing touches. Nick and I had our ‘first look’ in the house before we both walked down the aisle with our parents.
THE DÉCOR: Gorgeous Australian native blooms were placed in jars and scattered across the tables alongside assorted tea light candles. Pillows and blankets were spread across the lawn for a relaxed, picnic feel where guests could mingle. Other styling elements such as the old dresser, tables, weathered ‘gifts + cards’ suitcase and doily tablecloths were all sourced from family members. Having pieces from family, friends and the church made everyone feel a part of the day.
PHOTOGRAPHER: We were looking for contemporary, Australian and unique photography. Nick has been friends with Christopher for a while and he truly is the best!

Velvet is one of those chic elements that can transcend through every season with just a simple play on colour. For those summer vibes, beautiful bronze + blush crushed tones are the perfect hues to pull of velvet, while deeper, darker tones of marsala, emerald + blues compliment the chilly season.
A little dose of velvet can pack a big punch; the simplicity of velvet ribbon-tied accessories for your wedding is beautiful. Tie velvet around your bouquets and boutonnieres, around your dress as a belt or even include it in your wedding stationery – a velvet lined envelope makes for an elegant look and feel. Why not go down a unique path and incorporate flowers with a velvety feel to your florals – lambs ear or velvet flower make for the perfect subtle inclusion of velvet.
From top-to-toe, your groom has many options when it comes to this striking component – from velvet bow ties to velvet loafers. For those chillier seasons, why not dress your groom in a suave marsala or deep navy velvet suit jacket for added aesthetics.

A packed lunch in a brown paper bag, textbooks, chalk boards and knee-high socks… This ‘high school sweethearts’ wedding style is perfect for just that, those that sat in their final year, writing your beau’s initials in hearts or attended end of year formal together. This special theme is for the creative and quirky…. Visit an era from the past and create a nostalgic experience for friends and family. It’s incredibly romantic and charming with a vintage vibe that will have everyone taking a trip down memory lane!
A gorgeous alternative to the traditional 'seating chart'... Instruct guests to "take a pencil and find your grade." As they find their name attached to a pencil it correlates with a letter which then directs them to that table. Table letters instead of table numbers... ingenious!
These old school chalk boards make for the cutest wedding photography props! Your photos will forever hold the memory of your wedding style.

For a sweet and trendy alternative to the unity candle ceremony we are loving the sand ceremony; whether you want to do something different or after an idea leaning towards your beach style… A flame won’t stay alight on a windy shore!
In short, the bride and groom each have a container encasing sand in which they pour into a third ‘keepsake’ container. Choose a vessel (we think giant shells are gorgeous) and perhaps engrave your names, initial and/or wedding date.
The sand used can be different colours, from a sentimental location or simply some that’s easily accessible. At the conclusion of your vowels pour the sand in simultaneously.
For secure keeping at a later date, heat up some candle wax and pour into the mouth of the container to seal the love in forever.

Alternatively, you can print your text from a computer to save time and fit more content. The beauty of anemones can be used throughout the wedding styling, whether it is the bloom themselves or lovely black and white shades. We love the way that these stunning monochrome bridal heels highlight the beauty of the anemone, without being too literal. Trade the glitzy hairpiece for a few anemones tucked into your hair for a beautiful cohesive style.
A neutral palette of pastels works best with the anemone, as it adds a hint of colour while maintaining elegance. Think blushes, pinks and yellow tones throughout the styling, from the bridesmaids gowns to the bouquets.Twine, burlap and hessian are extra additions to make the anemones pop - a hessian table runner will complement the pastel shades and will ensure the black and white anemones really stand out! Aussie, Aussie, Aussie! Oi, Oi, Oi! Australia Day is fast approaching and to celebrate we've put together some gorgeous Aussie Outback wedding inspiration for those who are proud of their fair dinkum Aussie roots! An Australian wedding is a fabulous way to pay homage to your heritage, while making guests feel relaxed and comfy among the familiar rustic Aussie style. A little bit outback, a little bit country, a little bit rustic and very, very Australian...
An Aussie outback theme calls upon natural and rustic elements to really highlight the beauty of our wider sunburnt country or the endless vineyards in South Australia (less outback, more chic). Native Australia flora is the way to go; we're so lucky to have an abundance of beautiful native flowers at our fingertips, so incorporate them into your bouquets and decor for an authentic Aussie feel.
Don't forget the Australian food!! Swap the traditional wedding cake in favour of the iconic Aussie pavlova, which is also a light and fresh choice for the hot Australian heat. Lamington sticks and pies and pasties in restored crates are chic and rustic but are still as Aussie as it gets.

Soak in beautiful transparent watercolour hues and brighten your wedding with a gorgeous wash of pinks, purples, blues and greens. As the water runs, the colours swim and merge together to create a whimsy-inspired effect that will look stunning in springtime pastel hues. Introduce a watercolour wedding theme into your wedding and get ready to roll up your DIY sleeves with these beautiul and oh-so-easy ideas that will transform your wedding from a blank canvas into a true work of art.
The beauty of watercolour is that it is so easy, even for those who missed the blessing of any artistic ability, to use! There's absolutely no need for preciseness - the prettiness comes from the imperfect marriage of colours. Dip-dye white napkins to create chic watercolour table settings, and whip out your paint set to try your hand at your very own watercolour place cards. Paint big pieces of card with watercolour, wait until it dries and then cut into squares. Finally, use a black pen and your best calligraphy to write each person's name on a square. Too easy! Make sure you have fun with it.
You can also tackle the DIY with your table numbers! Purchase small canvases and outline, then fill in, your table numbers with your favourite watercolour shades. Don't worry if it's not perfect! Watercolour is all about the imperfections!

We think these little question cards are a great idea! Place cards with a different question on each table at your reception and by the end of the night you will have lots of fun, creative and personal ideas from your guests to keep. "What should we do on date night?", "What's the secret to a happy marriage?" and "What's your favourite memory of the couple?" are just some cute questions for your guests. Some will warm your heart, some will be hilarious and some you will be able to put to good use. You will definitely enjoy reading them at a later date to see what your loved ones have come up with!

Silver and gold have long exuded opulence and glamour as rare metals that sparkle and shine. Often we are asked 'which is your favourite, silver or gold?', as people tend to wear one or the other. These silly limitations are all changing! Silver and gold look extra glam when paired together and are a stunning theme for your wedding. We love a pinata - they're so much fun and a hilarious game to play with your guests. You could join in on the action and play with them, or set it up for guests to have a hit at while you and the bridal party are off having photographs. Fill up your pinatas with some cute goodies - not just lollies, but also glitter, cut outs of your initials and confetti.
It will be a fun idea to personalise the contents to suit your taste; mini bottles of bubble solution are a great idea, as guests will be able to use them later on to farewell you at the end of the reception. Seed packets, miniature plastic bottles of alcohol, glow sticks the guests can wear later on, sparklers and matchboxes and bottle openers are other great additions. If you really want to see your guests scramble for the prize, throw in two movie tickets or a gift card! Let the frenzy begin!

These gorgeous icecubes are the coolest (excuse the pun idea) idea for the prettiest of bridal showers! They're a simple and super cute way to add colour, flavour and a talking point to your drinks and the otherwise humble ice-cube! These little delights are so easy to make too - and you can make them look as pretty as you like. Flora will look beautiful, while fruit is also vibrant and stunning, but will also add some fresh flavour!
For the flower cubes, try using borage (safe for humans) and mint in your icecube trays before you pop them in the freezer. It is most effective if you fill them in two layers and let the first half freeze first, so that the entire leaf or petal is covered. If trying this with fruit - let your imagination go wild! Berries, lemon, pomegranate - so delicious, so fresh, so gorg!

Chaircovers are often not the first thing that one thinks of when starting to plan a wedding – and when it comes down to it finding a chaircover that is just right can turn into a bit of a challenge. Let the idea of chaircovers excite you! They're an area that you tailor to create individual and unique decor designs...there is no rule that suggests that all brides must go with the typical chaircover and sash, in fact, there is a plethora of other special options you can choose to create a gorgeous reception setting with the right décor to suit your style. Let your imaginations run wild!
Wreaths and flower garlands are a lovely way to decorate your chairs, combining the beauty of nature with your décor. Work with your florist to create wreaths that work with the flora in your bouquets and bring your colours together throughout the styling. Thin garlands of flower strings are pretty and delicates – hang them off the back of your chairs for a simple look. You could even collect recycled wood and paint your own signs to hang on the back of chairs. DIY is always the most fun option!
Alternatively, use fabrics to decorate your chair covers. Unique designs can be found at Wildflower Lines - or even better, DIY your own! Tear or cut fabrics into strips that can be tied from the back of your chairs or make your own sashes will tulle and decorate with a brooch. You could even collect shells or other unique artifacts that reflect your wedding theme. The possibilities truly are endless if you think outside of the box!
23 August 2013
These chic fabric garlands are an easy, creative and affordable decor addition to your wedding - they're so adaptable to suit your palette and theme! You can choose any fabrics, from patterned to lace, sequined to tie-dye, to create a garland that complements your style. Not only are they great to look at, they're so easy to put together (and don't require any sewing, phew!)...time to gather your fabrics and get your DIY on!
Once you have chosen your fabrics, you will need strong string, rope or twin and some fabric scissors.
A quick and easy way to get the process done is to lay down your fabrics and make a cut every 4cm along. That way, you can quickly rip the fabric where the cut is to get your strip of fabric. It is easier and the fabric tends to look more whimsical frayed and uneven.
Next, cut your string (length depending on how long you want your garland to be - don't forget to leave some space to tie the garland up with).
Now, fold your first strip of fabric in half, looping it around the string and pulling it tight.
Repeat this all the way along, creating whatever pattern you desire!
Now - hang as a ceremony backdrop, in your marquee, amongst the trees, on the chairs...the possibilities truly are endless! You can even make matching miniature ones as cake toppers. Be creative!

If your guests are anything like us they will probably be shedding a few tears throughout your ceremony (your speeches...your first dance..etc). Conquer the tears and keep mascara in check by collecting mis-matched handkerchiefs and making them available for guests to use during your wedding. Whimsical, cute and practical!

How many brides does it take to screw in a light bulb? None - they're too busy transforming them into tres chic works of eye-catching decor! Who knew the simple bulb could be so versatile? Let your imagination run wild to create totally unique and modern decorations for your big day. Firstly, hollow out your old light bulbs (here is how) and then get crafty. Here is some of our favourite ideas...
Old light bulbs can be filled with just about anything to make make-shift oil burners, vases or centre pieces. We love a light bulb filled with water holding a single flower, so simple yet so effective. Spray paint old light bulbs and fill them a jar with them for a unique centre piece in the colours of your choice. If you're feeling super creative, paint your light bulb and then uses a Sharpie paint pen to create interesting shapes and patterns on your bulb.
Light bulbs are most effective when you hang them - as you can see, we created a sparkly wedding styling shoot by hollowing out light bulbs, filling them with water, glitter and crystals and hanging them above the ceremony and reception area. They truly did look gorgeous. They can even be used as place cards! Fill them with moss, succulents, flowers, crystals, lollies, shells, sand (whatever suits your theme basically!), tie a tag with your guest's name on it and place it on your napkins. We'll bet your guests have never seen a place card quite like it!
