It's the first day of spring, which means one thing here in SA, the kick-off of spring racing season, and boy are we pumped! We seriously love the Spring races, each year women from all over Australia raise the standards in the latest styles and sometimes the craziest of head wear and fashion alike! We love that girls are adventurous with their races fashion and unique millinery and fascinators, after all, it's a bit of high-fashion fun! The head wear is not just for the fields - so many brides opt to wear a gorgeous hair piece as a fashionable alternative to a veil on their big day. Check out our fave inspo at the moment...

Gain insight into one of Adelaide’s most exquisite and divine bridal spaces, bursting with the ultimate collection of dazzling adornments and sparkling stones. “A fashion jewellery and accessory retail store, Miss Martini specialise in bridal and special occasion designs, as well as jewellery for everyday wear,” explains the vibrant and bubbly store owner, Maria.
At the young age of eighteen, Maria was enamoured with girly-girl materials and delightful designer crafts, “Through a love of fashion I began making my own jewellery and clothing while studying an Arts Degree at university,” explains Maria. “Whilst out on the town I would wear original designs I had pieced together and receive regular compliments and interest on where they could be purchased.”
Creative direction and an exceptional flair for design opened multiple doors for the wonderful Adelaide entrepreneur, who soon began approaching fashion stores to build interest in her fabulous pieces. “A local clothing store was my first stop. With a Tupperware box full of jewellery I went inside to show my designs. I came out with my first Adelaide stockist and then went on to supply stores Australia wide and in New Zealand under my label Calypso Designs.”
Maria was extremely determined to establish an artistic space she could express her personality and present her masterful creations. “As my little jewellery making business started to grow, and the kitchen table was no longer big enough, I decided that I needed a workshop and retail space that I could set up and sell my designs. This is how Miss Martini was born.”
With a keen eye for fashion-forward styles and a constant desire to fulfil customer requests, Maria now showcases an extensive range of stunning necklaces, rings, bracelets, fascinators, clutches and more across Miss Martini’s shelves. Whilst offering precious stones and popular labels, such as Australia’s own ‘Samantha Wills’ and ‘Peter Lang’, the trendy city-side store conveniently caters to the bride, bridesmaids, mother of the bride, flower girl and wedding guests.
Maria tributes her loved ones for her continual success, “My family, especially my mother, have contributed immensely to the growth of Miss Martini and are always there to lend a helping hand.”
There are many mornings I wake up with a new and exciting idea. I often take this thought to a family dinner and we will continue to throw different ideas around. I am also inspired everyday by the new brides I have the pleasure of meeting, assisting and styling as they piece together the perfect jewellery and accessories for their special day.
Most proud of...
Opening the store at only twenty years of age and successfully managing, maintaining and growing my own business for over ten years.
One thing about yourself people don’t know...
I have an Advanced Diploma in Fashion Design and Pattern Making.
The next big challenge...
To expand Miss Martini and our jewellery and accessory ranges and develop our brand new online boutique.
If I wasn’t in the industry I would be...
A professional traveller. I absolutely love to getaway and explore the world; Europe is one of my favourite destinations!
All the beautiful brides who visit Miss Martini are so thankful and appreciative for the assistance they receive in order to find the perfect accessories. I can see the happiness on their faces and this makes my work incredibly rewarding!
A typical day at work...
I could be assisting a bride-to-be as she looks for a beautiful crystal hairpiece, organising photo shoots for our new online boutique, merchandising recent product arrivals, or attending buying appointments to find new exquisite designs.
First thing I do when I get to work...
I check my diary to make sure I am up to date with what is happening for the day. Next I follow up on any customer orders and enquiries.
Favourite place to hang out...
I love strolling along Grange Beach in the summertime. All the restaurants and bars in and around Peel Street are also great for a quiet drink with friends.
When I am not at work you will find me...
At the beach in summer and during winter, I am baking in my kitchen. Apple Pie is my specialty!
A song always in my head...
‘Golden Years’ by David Bowie is one of my favourites.
My wardrobe can’t live without...
EVERYTHING! Especially my accessories; I cannot live without all my accessories!
Top of the shopping list...
A swimming pool; it is on my ‘dream list’ at the moment.
Favourite place to shop and eat in Adelaide...
I love to dine at Star of Siam and shop along King William Road.
My idea of a good time...
Hanging out with friends, having dinner, drinks and most importantly, plenty of laughs.
What makes you laugh?
Anything and everything - I giggle very easily.
Which five words best describe you?
Happy, creative, fashionable, easy-going and always smiling.
Red wine or champagne?
I am a cocktail girl through and through. Serve me up a Mojito any day!
Live this moment and make it so beautiful it will be worth remembering.

Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue... Sharing is caring and today we focus on borrowing that special something for you wedding. The diy safety pin holding a few of your small choices, is a traditional choice. These elements, however, do not have to be physically worn on your wedding day.
We think these ideas are a beautiful way to get creative, while still playing on old traditions for your big day. Traditional but sweet, fix your parents and grandparents wedding rings onto your bridal bouquet.
Perhaps you are lucky enough to actually have a wedding or engagement ring which is a family heirloom? In which case you have got this tradition down-pat!
Borrow a fashion piece from your mother or grandmother... We think this broach, as a statement jewel, is a gorgeous way to have something borrowed close to you. Alternatively, wear a piece of jewellery in which you have borrowed from something who is special to you.
A really sentimental choice is to invorporate some flowers from your grandmothers, or mum garden into your bridal bouquet. Can you image how flattered they would be!
What about using your parents wedding song as your own? This is bound to get some eyes tearing... we think this is such a beautiful idea and old school songs are some of the best and most romantic.

Ever since Kate Middleton married in a stunning Cartier piece designed for the late Queen Mother, the wedding tiara has been climbing in the popularity stakes. We personally love the look of a tiara with a simple dress – one of the reasons that Kate’s look worked so well!...

I simply cannot tell you how much I love a statement necklace. Whether worn all day or as a bold addition to reception attire they are just the ultimate in personality filled glamour. With no end of gorgeous styles, from dramatic crystal pieces, to bohemian chic, to exotic explosions of colour - your statement necklace really can be anything you want it to be and a perfect expression of you. It also has the added advantage of being a trend with an option to suit any budget. Adelaide's fabulous Miss Martini has a stunning array of statement pieces and would be a brilliant place to start the hunt for your own jaw dropping piece. Good luck!

Wedding bells and luxurious pearls - what more could a girl wish for? Pearls are quickly making their way back into the limelight and we're blaming it on the world's sudden infatuation with the Gatsby era (thanks to Baz Luhrmann's movie adaption of the infamous novel). The movie, which was only released a few days ago, has sent the world into a frenzy as they re-live the glamour and style of the roaring 1920s. If you haven't heard already, our beloved Tiffany & Co have teamed up with Baz's wife, costume designer Catherine Martin, to create the stunning jewellery collection for the film. Pearls are evident everywhere you look, whether it's to the 1920s for inspiration or to 2013 trends.
Pearls are one of the most classic pieces of jewellery, their presence reminds the wearer of old-world glamour and effortlessly sophisticated style. Let your wedding decor reflect the inherent elegance of a string of pearls. Ultra-feminine, they look dainty and pretty with pastel hues and delicate lace fabrics.
Wrap pearls around a simple bouquet to bring the styling together with the natural elements. Understated elegance is all that is required when matching your decor to the pearls. A shine of silver, rustic wood and fresh flowers are beautiful, classic additions that will complement the pearls rather than detract from them.

Inspired by ‘the romance of balmy summer evenings, the bohemian breeze and stars that sparkle through the changing sky’, Samantha Wills’ latest bridal collection ‘Evening Dreaming’ is a meeting of bohemian and luxury. We are always excited by the designer’s unique style and creativity and just had to share her latest bridal accessories with you; opulent jewellery of pearls, crystal and turquoise set in burnished metals.
We are absolutely captivated by the Heart of Aries pieces, intricate art-deco inspired bangles, rings, earrings and necklaces that will add the finest touch of glamour and romance to your wedding day.
Samantha Wills’ dreamy sentiment behind the collection shines through with each luxurious piece, designed for the bride with a ‘soul of wanderlust and love’…
Continue the Samantha Wills’ styling with whimsical treasures for your bridesmaids’ accessories. The Hunters and Gatherers collection features earthy tones, vivid jade, turquoise, golds and silvers, romancing the bohemian style. We love the idea of taking a step back from the traditional and adorning bridesmaids in sparkling luxe jewellery unlike any other. Inspired by a girl who lived in Paris for a year and collected trinkets along the way, Samantha Wills describes her pieces as ‘the experience, the midnight walks beneath the Parisian stars. The inspiration, the souls adventure…’
What a wonderful reflection of love and freedom to include in your wedding day. Sign up to the SW VIP newsletter here to stay up-to-date with of all Samantha Wills new releases…the glamour is worth it!

In light of our friends EverettBrookes’ fourth birthday, we couldn’t help but treat our eyes to a wistful gaze at some of the jeweller’s stunning white gold creations. It all comes down to personal taste and white gold is still a serious trend; the metal is fresh, versatile and flattering on all skin tones. After spending the morning making a shortlist of our favourite EverettBrookes wedding and engagement rings (not an easy task, mind you) we’ve decided we need to share them with you. What’s your favourite?
These diamond engagement rings are making our heart beat very, very quickly….The corner set princess cut with channel set princess cut stones on the shoulders will certainly make you the envy of your girlfriends. For a unique spin on a traditional ring, we love this brilliant cut diamond on a knife-edged style band! We think princess cut diamond wedding bands look stunning stacked on either side of an engagement ring and are in love with this opulent wedding ring with alternating princess and brilliant cut stones.
White gold is also increasingly popular for men, particularly with a masculine brushed finish. For a ring that is bang on trend, we adore this band with the rose gold inner.
David Everett and Ian Brookes have created the place to go for exquisite custom-made jewellery, combining passion with expertise and quality at EverettBrookes. An experience like no other, they offer after-hours appointments accompanied by champagne and an understanding eye for creativity. Have your ideal ring in mind? Visit their workshop and they’ll make your dream a reality.

The faithful strapless gown has been around the block and we are welcoming this stylish spin on your classic cut. Perfect for bridesmaids, a chiffon neckline will take their gowns from simple to sleek, allowing you plenty of room to play around with opulent accessories. Statement clutch bags and shoes are the perfect details to complete the high-fashion look. Bridesmaids in illusion necklines are very now and very glamorous.

Can't get enough of the feminine and mystical shades of the sea? Good news! Turquoise is fresh, invigorating and on trend right now. We were inspired by the gorgeous shades of green and blue on the runway at Monique Lhuillier’s Spring 2013 show, particularly the breezy and elegant mint dress featured below. Shades of turquoise and mint look fabulously crisp with white and will have a calming effect on your big day. Pastel nail polish and makeup was also seen all over the runways, a look that we ourselves are sporting in the office (hello, aqua nails!). Minty décor is pretty and soft, try subtle additions such as frosted mint chairs and hanging lanterns, the colour also looks beautiful with bouquets of baby’s breath. Minty fresh!
