The retro 50’s’ an era of flouncy, bouncy skirts, Elvis, Coke + milkshakes bringing all the girls to the yard – or the diner bar should we say! Utilising an era to narrow down your wedding theme is an awesome way to customise all your décor… polka dots, coca cola, vinyls + popcorn – YES PLEASE!!. We have stuck with the classic red + duck egg blue but using shades of yellow + pink is so 50’s housewife + we love just as equally.

THE COUPLE: Rebecca + Brett
THE PALETTE: We chose a beach theme because we both love the sea and sand. It is also very relaxing and calming. We ultimately wanted a wedding that included our closest family and friends, featuring stunning flowers, great music and brilliant food and wine.
THE DRESS: I was looking for an elegant, fitted gown with intricate beading and lace. I opted for an off white bodice with lace and beading over the top. I designed my gown and it was a very special experience. I am so in love with my dress. It was a one shouldered fitted gown featuring French lace and beading. Layers of tulle were placed towards the bottom of the gown to give a softened look, which perfectly complemented the beach theme.
THE CEREMONY: It was a beautiful spot looking out to the water. We wanted our guests to be able to see the water behind us during the ceremony. We also live locally and it is a special location for us
THE RECEPTION: We were looking for a modern location overlooking the beach, and of course fantastic food and a great wine list. We had dined there before and the food was amazing. We were able to utilise the balcony area for canapés and drinks after the wedding ceremony, and also design a beautiful three-course meal to our liking.
THE DÉCOR: The table centrepieces were a very unique design featuring orchids in a long husk, to complement the long tables. My ceremony had a bamboo backdrop with orchids and tulle attached, which was later placed as a backdrop to the bridal table.
THE FLOWERS: My bridal bouquet consisted of large white phalaenopsis and Singapore orchids in a cascading waterfall design. The bridesmaid’s bouquets were the same as mine but smaller in size.
PHOTOGRAPHER: We were looking for modern, fresh photography. Daniel Kalisz is a very close friend of ours and a brilliant photographer. He also previously photographed our baby daughter for us.

THE COUPLE: Maria + Andrej
PALETTE: Mainly white with a hint of gold. White reminds us of the Greek Islands and the gold complemented the church and our invites.
THE DRESS: I was looking for something different. I am not a ‘wedding dress girl’ and it was really important to me that I felt comfortable and very ‘me’, but at the same time I wanted something different. I always prefer a slender fit but I wanted a bit of edge. The gown is long-sleeved and slender with a sheer overlay. The beautiful beaded pattern sits over a subtle nude layer. It was perfect for a ‘non bridal bride’.
THE CEREMONY: The ceremony venue is Andrej’s regular family church. The Serbian church is adorned with gold, beautiful candelabras, lighting and exquisite icons. As I am of Greek Orthodox background and Andrej is of Serbian Orthodox background, there were many traditions to tie in. The wedding ceremony was traditional Serbian Orthodox. The priest recited in all three languages, English, Greek and Serbian, it was a pretty special touch to incorporate all our backgrounds. There are no seats in the church with men on one side, women on the other side and the wedding couple in the middle of the church, with all the guests standing around. Our hands were joined together by the priest with a white silk cloth (which family sent us from Serbia). This signifies bringing the couple together as one.
THE RECEPTION: Andrej and I loved the feel of the place, the food and the location. We were looking for something contemporary and classy with that open-air feel. We loved that the reception was surrounded by glass and you could look out onto the city. Leading up to the wedding, and on the night, the staff were brilliant to deal with and the service was fantastic. We have a big family, so as much as we wanted it to be intimate, we knew that was not going to happen. Andrej and I chose a formal sit down four-course dinner. We also wanted the night to be fun with a party feel, and integrate all of our cultures, so the focus was on good food, good music and lots of dancing.
THE DÉCOR: Andrej and I tried to keep it simple. On each table we had three glass candleholders of different lengths with white candles and a vase of white Singapore orchids. We also included a glass jar containing chocolate hearts wrapped in gold foil and white sugared almonds. We purchased a large old antique birdcage, which we filled with flowers and candles, and placed near the bridal table.
THE FLOWERS: My bouquet consisted of orchids and peonies. I had a beautiful arrangement with a mixture of both flowers in white, with long stems and some greenery.
PHOTOGRAPHER: We were looking for someone who is unique, different, creative, magical and real all in one. Andrej and I chose B Captured by Ky Luu. Ky is amazing and the nicest person you will ever meet. He is very creative and so easy and pleasant to deal with leading up to and during the big day. His photos speak for themselves and you can see his passion for his work. The first thing Andrej and I did after the proposal was select the date and book in Ky.

Make for a polished + fashionable affair with hints of glitter throughout your special day – both chic + elegant, pair with lots of whites, greys, pinks + black tones for a striking affair. There aren’t really any defined set of rules when it comes to wedding day beauty looks, but honestly, who are we kidding, everyone knows that winter brides get sparkly, sultry smoked eyes + deep burgundy lips while spring brides have an ethereal look with fresh faced, rosy sun-kissed everything! With leading clothing labels across the globe launching their spring/summer collections, we thought what a perfect time to draw inspiration for the perfect bridal beauty look from the runway + celebrities alike. So in the spirit of spring, we have put together our top eight spring wedding makeup looks – get ready to play copycat ladies..
1. Lets begin with a classic look. A simple beauty approach for an everyday makeup minimalist is the way to go in order to avoid wedding photo regret down the road. Think light sculpting, defined brows + pretty lashes to tie the look together.
2. There is a lot of argument about the rules of how to wear bright poppy lipstick – but BOA HQ is advocating for both dark, sultry eyes + the bare minimal look. Both looks surprisingly make a bold + chic statement against the crisp whiteness of a wedding dress.
3. Lets talk fine lines. Black liquid liner is a timeless + classic makeup look – whether it’s a clean line with a slight flick or an exaggerated wing – it is still our go to look all year round. Pair with your perfect shade of red for a statement down the aisle or opt for a light, peachy lip – your options are endless.
4. One of our all time favourite looks; a monochromatic palette of brown, bronze + gold in metallic + matte hues. A beach ceremony would be the obvious choice for this all-over tanned goddess look, however it could look just as stunning in a more modern ceremony away from the beach – the choice is yours.
5. When palettes of dark, sultry colours feel to heavy, we recommend a purple haze of shadow for those balmy nights. A popular hue on the runway + capable of making your eyes pop instantly, lovely lavender and mauve eye shadows can be applied in a myriad of manners to take you from day to night wear.
6. Silver paired with sweet shades of pink are the perfect contrasting colours for an ethereal garden soiree. Silver shadow paired with winged liner adds a little drama + sweetness to gorgeous rosy pink hues.
7. Move over orange, there’s a new colour taking over – introducing you ladies to berry cherry lips. Edgy yet sophisticated, diffuse the colour around the edges and team with natural looking eyes – smudged winged liner + bold lashes.
8. A must for all spring/summer brides is flawlessly dewy + radiant skin. A little gloss on the lips + sheen across cheekbones defines the sculpting of the face + gives that perfect wedding day glow – a must have with all makeup looks.

COUPLE: Lanie + James
PALETTE: Cream, ivory and apricot.
THE DRESS: I wanted to look back at photos of my wedding dress in twenty years and still think it was the loveliest dress I had ever seen. I opted for something simple and elegant with bohemian elements to it. The dress was Thai double ply silk with a full skirt and vintage French Chantilly lace covering the bust, with spaghetti straps joining at the back for a very simple look.
THE CEREMONY: Our ceremony decor consisted of a few rows of Chiavari chairs with rose petals down the aisle and little bunches of gypsophila hanging from the aisle chairs. The aisle led down to an archway we had made especially for the occasion, consisting of two beautiful old doors connected at the top with reclaimed wood, decorated again with bunches of gypsophila. The rose petals were from my mother’s own garden! As my father walked me down the aisle, James’ father also played the guitar. Both my mother and James’ mother read aloud readings we had chosen. We made sure our family were very involved in the ceremony!
THE RECEPTION: Longview Vineyard was the first reception venue we looked at and we fell in love with it straight away! It was beautiful, rustic and felt very warm and inviting to us. The view from the venue was absolutely breathtaking and being that little way out from the city gave us a feeling of intimacy and seclusion from the rest of the world for the day. The staff at Longview were the most helpful people we had ever encountered which also assisted with the decision.
THE DÉCOR: James and I chose a very simple centrepiece consisting of a glass vase filled with bunches of gypsophila. I made our table numbers myself from reclaimed wood. The venue provided and set up fairy lights around the wooden posts in the room and I created ‘chandeliers’ by wiring jars with candles in them and hanging them from a ring over each table. Our florist was lovely enough to decorate these chandeliers with more gypsophila and hung them from the ceiling for me. The whole venue covered with candles and fairy lights was magical!
THE FLOWERS: My bouquet consisted of white roses, carnations and lisianthus and the rest of the wedding was decorated in bunches of gypsophila.
PHOTOGRAPHER: James and I had Kelsey Marshall from Elevation Photography and we could not have been happier with her! With so many wedding photographers to choose from in Adelaide we were a little overwhelmed with the decision but in the end we chose Kelsey because not only did she have an array of different photos in her portfolio but she was a genuinely warm person to deal with and made us feel as though she was just as excited as we were for our wedding! We wanted our photos to be candid and really capture the day itself.

Kisses in the rain. Romantic grand gestures. Eye contact lasting more than 5 seconds. Impassioned speeches right at the last minute. Yep, all the tell tale signs of a Hollywood movie that’s set the standards of unrealistic #couplegoals, SIGH!
Grab a box of tissues + get ready to celebrate love in the best way possible - movie marathon anyone? These are some of the moving scenes that make us weak in the knees. [Seriously, you try looking at a GIF from Disney Pixar's Up! without crying.]
1 - THE NOTEBOOKS ROW BOAT LAKE SCENE
As if we would ever say no to a romantic boat ride with Ryan Gosling – not in this lifetime that’s for sure.
2 - LOVE ACTUALLY TO ME YOU ARE PERFECT
Peter confesses his love for Juliet in the sweetest way, even though they can never be together – breaking our hearts + leaving us swooning in awe all at once – confused emotions much?!
3 - JACK TEACHING ROSE TO FLY IN THE TITANIC
This scene leaves our heart booming + aching – honestly, its probably cutest thing we have seen since funny cat videos!
4 - GHOSTS ROMANTIC + INTENSE POTTERY SCENE
That pottery scene is literally the most intimate art-related moment ever filmed. OMG!
5 - ADAM SANDLER SERENADING DREW BARRYMORE IN THE WEDDING SINGER
Robbie can't let Julia marry her cheating fiancé, Glen so he not only crashes their flight, but he's written her a song: "I Want to Grow Old With You.", ahh yep if only..
6 - HEATH LEDGER SINGING IN 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU [WHAT IS IT WITH GUYS SINGING?!]
We would so date someone who would sing for us in front of the entire soccer field during PE.. oh and risk getting arrested by campus security too! We still can't hear that song without imagining a marching band playing the instrumental part or Heath dancing across the school's bleachers.
7 - BEING IN TWO PLACES AT ONCE IN A WALK TO REMEMBER
He promised not to fall in love with her + then did + then ticked off the biggest item on her bucket list – making us fall in love with him! AHH, we love a good love story cliché.

The glorious scent of this spring bloomer is one of the reasons for its popularity – think a garden in full bloom! THE COUPLE: Lauren + Jason
PALETTE: We chose a rustic vibe with neutral and pastel colours, which tied in with the venue.
THE DRESS: I wanted a timeless gown that would complement my curvy figure. I loved the work of many recognised Israeli designers, and gained a lot of inspiration from them. Their designs are very glamorous and feminine. My gown was a backless, white satin with a lace bodice and delicate beading. I also incorporated detachable sleeves, as I could not decide whether I wanted them or not. I wore the sleeves for the ceremony and removed them for the reception.
THE CEREMONY: Our ceremony was set up on the lawn with white Americana chairs and two large white umbrellas to shade from the sun. Wine barrels held two large flower arrangements and were placed at the beginning of the aisle. There was another large table arrangement set up near the celebrant. I created little cones, filled them with petals and sat them in a rustic crate for guests to toss. There was also lawn games set up for guests to play before and after the ceremony.
THE RECEPTION: We decided on a cocktail celebration, as we didn’t want the day to feel too formal. We enjoyed spending time mingling with our family and friends.
THE DÉCOR: As our reception was cocktail style, we used wine barrels as tables and scattered bar stools around them. Each of the barrels had tea light candles in mason jars with flowers alongside. The vintage furniture was set up in clusters around the barrel hall. We had fairy lights cascading from the roof and a number of up-lights that lit up the barrels and surrounding walls. There was a beautiful flower feature in an old rustic wheelbarrow, which looked amazing. We also used hay bails for additional seating.
THE FLOWERS: I had a gorgeous trailing bouquet with a generous selection of seasonal flowers, leaves and tendrils in a softly cascading shape. It was an unstructured design, and asymmetrical for a relaxed feminine feel. The bridesmaids’ bouquets were made from gypsophila.
PHOTOGRAPHER: Jason and I were looking for lovely natural photography, which perfectly portrayed the day with all its love and emotions. We loved all of the photos Andrea captured.

While it was all about the floral shirts, blue suits + bold socks for the dapper gentlemen, it was a battle of the headband trackside at this year’s Emirates Melbourne Cup for the ladies. The fairer sex followed in the footsteps of Derby Day and provided us with the perfect spring/summer garden wedding inspo- keeping it chick trackside with abstract hairpieces, simple hairstyles + of course, fun frocks.
Our favourite couple of the day dazzled as the arrived hand in hand. Snez looked red-hot in a kookai two-piece while bachie Sam looked handsome in navy. Ashley Hart clashed colour + patterns and totally nailed it! We are loving her pompom earrings teamed with a brimmed hat.
Jen was a walking statement as she played with colour in a bright neon Toni Maticevski which contrasted perfectly with her jet-black headband + shoes while sweetheart Nikki Phillips gold + rose flower crown stole the show.
The queen, of well, everything fashion in Australia has done it again! Bow down to Rebecca Judd because this woman literally does not know how to put a foot wrong. The style queen opted for an orange Alex Perry frock teamed with a Hatmaker headpiece – oh and did you spy those to-die-for heels?
Mummy-to-be Nadia Bartel + her baby bump looked gorgeous in a pastel purple Dion Lee dress + copper bowed headpiece – can we look like this at 37 weeks please?! Myers Fashions on the Fields ambassador Georgia looked pretty in pink, wearing an all pink - yes, we repeat, all pink - ensemble, from her dress to her boat-style hat + nailed it!
Race royalty Kate Waterhouse opted for something different this year – she wore derby days traditional black + white trackside and looks as chic as ever teamed with a gold netted turban by Sarah & Sebastian. Myers ambassador Lauren Phillips followed the Myer trackside theme and opted for a simple pale pink dress with matching clutch + Grecian-esque headband.
P.S. We couldn’t forget to mention a certain handsomely dapper male.. Kris Smith! From all of us here at BOA HQ, we bless your parent’s everyday for providing Australia with a symmetrically perfect human being that pulls off a suit like no other, so THANKYOU!

A gorgeous balmy night spent under the stars singing, dancing + celebrating - it’s time to draw inspiration from traditional European courtyard ceremony and receptions – and ladies this is a trend we just LOVE! The beauty of a courtyard wedding is that you have the ability to go as formal or informal as you like – a three-course dinner or canapés + share plates – the choice is all yours. A courtyard is a blank canvas so this is your perfect excuse to play with theming + lighting; the possibilities are endless from glamorous chandeliers to festoon lights. Don’t forget to let your guests know they will be dining al fresco, we all know that ‘sinking feeling’ when we wear stilettos on soft + uneven surfaces.

Let’s steer away from a perfectly pristine setting and create a moody + romantic atmosphere where plants grow in their own design – natural, wild + utterly breathtaking.
