Ceremonies and receptions by the water are magical!
Water is calming and the softness of the sand and scent of the beach will leave your guests feeling like they are on a holiday.
Schedule sunset photo shots to capture the moment, or consider timing your beach wedding for sunset, where your guests will see you take your vows surrounded by the warm glow of the setting sun.
Keep your wedding attire light and airy. Choose fabrics that you will feel comfortable in the heat and won't show every drop of perspiration during your day. You might want to re-consider those three inch heels that will sink deep into the sand, or you could ask for a red carpet to walk you to the aisle over the sand.
Discuss your beach wedding with your stylist and select a style that can weather the weather!. Humidity can reek havoc with a perfectly styled 'do'. Your best bet is a traditional 'up-do' as an alternative to long, luscious curls.
Humidity and heat can also affect your wedding flower arrangements. Keep floral arrangements refrigerated until just before the ceremony is about to start and consider spraying floral decorations with water during the day to keep them perky and fresh. Beaches can be windy, so keep decorations simple and well secured.
Keep lots of non-alcoholic drinks on hand for guests to avoid deyhydration. Create shady areas for your guests near drinking or sitting areas. Don't forget to hand out mini sunscreen bottles or sachets as guests arrive.
When you picture your dream wedding at the beach, you're probably not hearing the roaring of the waves, the rushing wind, the local kids running around you or people stopping, staring and even applauding during your wedding vows. Will everyone be able to hear you?..consider renting a sound system with clip microphones for the bride, groom and officiate. Your DJ or band may be able to help you with this. Also check the tide schedules...you don't want the water creeping up on you unawares.
Along with heat come annoying flying, crawling insects. To avoid bugging your wedding guests with bugs, ask the location manager of the resort or reception venue to spray for sand flies, or mosquito’s the day before your event or consider handing out mini bottles of insect repellent.
A beach is public and as such and you may not be able to serve alcohol. You may need a special permit for a large gathering of people. Contact your local council for legalities, costs and restrictions.
